Mr. Alvin Edward Wood, better known as "Woody," of Covington, GA passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Woody was born on July 3, 1934 in Plymouth, Massachusetts to the late Chester Alvin Wood and Elva Paoli Wood.
Woody graduated from Plymouth High School in 1951 and joined the United States Air Force as a mechanic in 1953. After leaving the Air Force he joined IBM (International Business Machines) where he spent many of his professional years. In 1956 Woody married Carolyn Bell of Savannah GA, who passed away after a long fight with cancer in 1973. They had two children together, Steven Anthony and Alicia Marie. In 1975, Woody married Mary Caramello, who passed away in 2018, from his hometown of Plymouth, Massachusetts and they moved to Conyers, GA while Woody continued his career with IBM. Woody became a loving step father to Mary's children, Stephen and Lauren Caramello. IBM sold its Product Centers to NYNEX (New York New England Exchange) in 1986 and Woody joined them as National Service Support Manager until retiring in 1988. Upon retirement, Woody and Mary, built a home on Lake Oconee where they lived for many years until relocating to Covington, GA.
Woody was a devoted husband, loving father and brother to three sisters, Audrey, Beverly and Cynthia. He was a proud grandfather to BJ, Brett, Joel, Angela, Alexa, Luke, Stephen, Jami, and Jill and great grandfather to 18 children.
Woody had numerous passions and hobbies. Among them were wood working as he created many beautiful home pieces with perfection, and he was also an avid golfer.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Saturday, June 28th at Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 619 State Road, Plymouth (Manomet), Massachusetts, followed by a service at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. A burial service will follow at Manomet Cemetery.
Woody will be sorely missed as he was "so much for so many people." His love for others was unconditional and he demonstrated this every day in how he interacted with all those he encountered. In lieu of flowers, we would like to ask anyone wishing to do so make a contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Alzheimer Research.

So sorry to hear about Alvin. I grew up with him and his sisters on Alden street in Plymouth. Ma. His mom and dad were fantastic. We had so many memories of growing up and graduating together. Loved Mary also. She was younger and hung around with my sister Diane Pizzotti Diozzi. My deepest condolences to the family. Rest in peace dear Alvin.
