Anita Denise Davis was born July 5, 1954 in Seoul, Korea. She was a loving daughter to her parents Alfred W. Davis, Sr and Vivian Hamilton Davis who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Kansas City along with her brother Dr. Alfred W. Davis, Jr. As children, they would go on lots of road trips with their parents where they had the opportunity to visit many cities to learn about its history and to have fun-filled adventures.
Anita attended Paseo Baptist Church with her family professing her faith in God at a young age. Anita graduated from Saint Theresa High School in 1972. After high school, she attended Avila College where she graduated and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing in 1976 and shortly thereafter, took the nursing examination and received her license to practice as a nurse in the state of Missouri. Anita began her professional nursing career at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kansas City, MO as a staff nurse, team leader and charge nurse. She spent her entire nursing career in labor and delivery and the mother and baby units where she enjoyed taking care of Moms and their newborn babies every day. She went above and beyond her call of duty and was dedicated to her patients. The compassion and empathy that she demonstrated on a daily basis for the patients that she took care of was beyond measure.
Anita retired after 42 years of service as a nurse. The same passion, dedication and love that she demonstrated on a professional level in her career, was also evident in her personal life. She took care of both of her parents in their senior years, providing for their needs and always prioritized their well-being but with patience and selflessness. In the last few years of her life, she also cared for her brother, Dr. Alfred Davis, Jr, as he faced health challenges. One of the most important roles in her life was being an aunt to her niece Franchesca. It started the day Franchesca was born and when "Aunt Nita" was given the honor to name her. Her Aunt Nita also nicknamed her Poop. She was not only her aunt but she was like a second mom to her. She provided unconditional love, support and guidance to Franchesca and in fact would team up with Franchesca's mom during those tumultuous teenage years. Franchesca would always tell her Aunt Nita "how lucky she was to have two moms in her life who provided the same love, support and guidance" to her. Anita's giving spirit extended beyond her family and profession. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether mentoring young nurses, comforting friends in times of need, or supporting her community, she believed in lifting others up and ensuring they felt valued and cared for.
Anita was a creative and artistic person and loved making various kinds of scrap books and even made Franchesca a scrap book that chronicled her life from infancy to age 18. When Franchesca went to college, she made her a scrap book that included instructions on how to live as a college student. Anita was a loyal friend, and confidant and valued the trust that people put in her. She departed this earthly realm on January 23, 2025.
Anita's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the love she shared and the lives she changed She leaves to cherish her loving memory her brother Dr. Alfred W. Davis, Jr, her beloved niece, Franchesca R. Davis, her special furry friend Hugger, and a host of cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Arrangements entrusted to Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website
