Arlene Oreanthi Kakavas, known affectionately as Arlene by her friends and family, graced this world with her vibrant presence on October 26, 1951, in Queens, New York. Arlene's life was a canvas of colorful experiences and heartfelt moments. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 11, 2025.
She was the cherished daughter of the late Theodore and Agatha Kakavas and grew up in a loving household in Hickory Manor,
Toms River, New Jersey with her siblings who loved her and will remember her fondly.
She attended Toms River High School South, where she developed a passion for the arts that would stay with her throughout her life. After graduating High School, she moved to the Boston Area. Her career path reflected her warm and welcoming nature, having worked as a receptionist at the Boston Ballet. She found her way back to the Jersey Shore after many years and then worked as a receptionist for the Asbury Park Press, and later as an Innkeeper in Spring Lake, where she made countless friends and acquaintances.
Those who knew Arlene will recall her free spirited presence, often characterized by her love for art and music. She could frequently be found strumming her guitar, her fingers dancing along the strings as effortlessly as she moved on the dance floor. A lifelong fan of Ian Anderson, she shared many joyful moments at concerts with her childhood friend, Mary.
Arlene's love for animals was unparalleled, and she often expressed the simple joy they brought to her life. Her playful and creative nature was infectious, and she had an uncanny ability to light up a room with her intelligence and quick wit.
Her life was a testament to the beauty that can be found in the connections we make with others and the passions that drive us. Arlene will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is survived by her loving brother, Gus Kakavas(& Robin) and sisters Mary Jordan (& Lance) and Nancy Chionis (& Dimitrious). Arlene was a cherished aunt to her nephew, Alex Chionis, and her nieces, Jennifer Benyola (& Anthony), Megan Mocik (& Chad), as well as her adored great-nieces, Madisyn, Kloey, and Victoria Benyola, and Mila and Lili Mocik. She is predeceased by her beloved niece, Agatha Chionis.
Arlene's passion for art and music was a driving force in her life. She could often be found dancing, playing her guitar, and walking on the boardwalk. Her vibrant free spirit and infectious enthusiasm for the arts and culture brought joy and inspiration to all who knew her.
Arlene's legacy is one of joy, creativity, and an unwavering zest for life. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a beacon of light in the lives of her family and friends.
