Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory - Souderton on May 14, 2024.
Arlie D. McMahan, 88, of Sellersville, PA; formerly of Midland, MI went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at The Community at Rockhill.
Arlie was the loving husband of Martha Jo (Hays) McMahan for 65 years. He was born in
Logan, KS to the late Virgil Thomas McMahan and the late Eva Mae (Sherwood) McMahan.
Arlie graduated from Wellsville High School in
Wellsville, KS, class of 1954. He graduated from Ottawa University in
Ottawa, KS and later from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, MI.
Arlie was a hard worker, from his early days on the farm to driving the school bus as a senior in high school, voluntary military service, and ultimately employment as a Chemist for Dow Chemical in Midland, MI for 33 years. He worked his way up in the lab, earned his MBA taking night classes, and rose to a senior position in logistics.
He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Midland, MI for 50 years, where he served tirelessly in nearly every capacity. Arlie volunteered at the Midland Hospital for many years and volunteered with tax prep for AARP in various locations. He was a current member of St. Andrew's United Church of Christ in Perkasie, PA
Arlie lived a very full life. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An avid traveler, he & Martha enjoyed many adventures whilst seeing the world together. His passion for songbirds characterized his retirement years, delighting his grandkids with redesigned bird feeders he'd engineer to outsmart thieving squirrels. Arlie was a big fan of college football, a dyed-in-the-wool Kansas University Jayhawks fan who stayed up late to cheer for his team.
Arlie was a quiet man with a steady presence and a great sense of humor. He loved his wife, Martha, dearly and faithfully. Arlie was a very intelligent man who not only knew a lot about a lot of things but was capable of many things. What he didn't know, he figured out. Arlie was generous. He freely shared his time, wisdom, and help with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Kathy Logan & husband, Richard of Midland, MI, Margaret Zglinicki & husband, Joe of Norristown, PA; his son, David McMahan & wife, Whitney of
Raleigh, NC; his five grandchildren, Evan Mantel & wife, Erin of Purcellville, VA, Maureen Bowen & husband, Ben of Greeneville, TN, Meredith Mantel of Reston, VA, Christopher McMahan & wife, Alana of
