Arnold L. Drury, 1950-2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Arnold L. Drury. Arnold was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 17th, 1950, to William and Edith Drury.
Arnold graduated from Manual Dupont High School in 1968 and then attended Morehead State University on a football scholarship, graduating in 1972. He continued his education at Spalding University where he earned his master's degree in education.
Arnold started his 47-year career at Jeffersontown High School where he taught and coached football for two years. He continued his career at Saint Xavier High School where he was a teacher, football coach, driver's education instructor and administrator for 45 years.
Arnold helped shape the Saint Xavier community with his steady presence, care for each individual student, and deep sense of equality, integrity and fair treatment for all. His impact on generations of students and colleagues was immeasurable. He received the school's Theodore James Ryken Award in 2011 and was named an honorary alumnus in 2019. He took great pride in his work and was admired for his unwavering compassion and commitment to the young men at Saint Xavier. He was a true example of a Xaverian educator.
Arnold and his loving wife of 39 years, Ann, were married at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Louisville. Arnold treasured spending time with his family, and he was a humble man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Both during his tenure at Saint Xavier and in retirement, Arnold enjoyed taking vacations to the beach, and he stayed fit by going to the gym almost daily and by taking walks with Ann through their neighborhood. He had a hard shell but a kind heart. His compassion for others extended from his family to his students to friends and acquaintances, and everyone who was fortunate enough to spend time with him benefited from his kindness and wisdom.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Jackie Miranda (Sean) and Carolyn Drury (Asa); and grandchildren, Katelyn, Brooke, Jenna, Paige, and Riley. He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) and Edith Drury, and sister, Billie.
Memorial visitation will be held 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, August 15th, at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, 40218. A memorial mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 16th at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 1520 Hepburn Avenue, 40204.
