STRUTHERS - Arthur J. Crann, 90, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Hospice House.

Art was born July 7, 1935, in Akron, OH, to the late Joseph and Margaret (Gray) Crann. Due to his parents’ early passing, he became a resident at Parmadale orphanage in Parma, OH. A couple of years later, he went to live with his sister, Pat and brother-in-law Gerry Brauer when he started attending Ursuline High School, graduating in 1953.

He attended Youngstown State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. He later earned his Master’s degree in Education from Westminster College.

His passion for teaching led him to a lifelong career in education. He was employed with the Youngstown Board of Education for 37 years, retiring in 1996. He had fond memories of his fellow teachers and many of his former students, some of whom he remained in contact with. During his employment, he was active in the YEA, OEA, and NEA organizations.

Art shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, the former Carol Thomas. Together, they enjoyed countless cruises and shared a passion for ballroom dancing, which led to many lasting friendships. A lifelong, devoted fan of Cleveland sports, Art was particularly dedicated to the Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers. He also loved to golf and was a longstanding member of the Youngstown City Teachers’ bowling league at Camelot Lanes.

Art will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Carol of Struthers; daughter, Pam (John) Horvath of Poland; grandchildren, Nicole (Steve) Saunier of Columbus and Brett (Sara Kate) Horvath of Tampa, Florida; great-grandson, Callan Saunier of Columbus; sister-in-law, Deborah Thomas of New York City; brother-in-law, Tom Thomas of Austintown; and nieces, Barb (Walt) Hurdley and Mary Ellen Loibl both of Austintown.

In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat (Gerry) Brauer, Ann (Ed) Starr, and infant brother John Crann.

Art, in a final act of generosity, donated his body to Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). Respecting his wishes, no service or calling hours will be held. The family will gather for a private Celebration of Life dinner at a later date.

His kindness, humor, and love of life will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
