Arthur Phillip Davis, 82, of Mine Hill passed away with his loving family at his side on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Born February 14, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre PA, he was the son of the late James and Jean Davis, and spent his early years in Kingston PA. After graduating from Kingston High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New York Institute of Technology.
He began his career at United Advertising in Fairfield, NJ as a designer and installation supervisor of store displays for some of the nation's largest retail and department store chains. After advancing through the NJ advertising and marketing fields in various capacities, he joined with his wife, Elaine and son, Randy, to start a family-operated custom sign company. Each day was a creative challenge, and an opportunity to meet many wonderful people in the business community. The small company grew for 20 years before retirement.
Art always had a desire to help others whenever he could. As a Pennsylvania National Guardsman, he spent weeks working to help people trapped in the flood waters of the Susquehanna River, sometimes by boat, removing them from the roofs of their homes. As a volunteer with the Mine Hill Recreation Commission, he worked tirelessly to improve the lake grounds and beach events, keep the sports teams in uniforms and equipment, and offer support to the children and their coaches. His love of the township and its people kept him involved throughout the 80's.
He especially enjoyed skiing, tennis, camping out with the boy scouts and their families, outings at the beach with family and friends, gardening, and coin collecting. Inevitably, he always gravitated to his creative pursuits. If you didn't know where he was, you could almost always find him in his garden or basement workshop, working on the next DIY home improvement project or some surprise handmade gift. His warmth and generosity will be missed by all who knew him.
Art is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elaine (Kalafut), his two sons, Randal and Brian, his daughters-in-law, Elisabeth and Kellie, and his six grandchildren, Abigail, Carrie, Matthew, Jackson, Chloe, and Emma.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 NJ-10, Randolph, NJ 07869 (www.tuttlefh.com). Family and friends are invited to call from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sat., September 13, 2025. A private Interment will take place in the future at Locust Hill Cemetery 168 N. Sussex St, Dover, NJ 07801.
