Barbara Ann Andrews, 75, of Indianapolis, IN completed her baptismal journey and was called home to God on August 1, 2024, surrounded by her husband and three children.

Barbara was born on February 22, 1949, to Ronald and Phyllis Henriksen in Northfield, MN. She was the oldest of five children. Barbara graduated Cum Laude from St. Olaf College with a triple major in Art, Psychology, and Asian Studies in 1971. She continued her passion for education and completed her Master’s in Art & Education from University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1974.

Barbara’s love for traveling began in 1968 when she studied abroad in Bangkok, Thailand. While there, she traveled across Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, mostly sleeping in Buddhist temples at night. During her early 20s, she hitchhiked across Europe, spent several months traveling alone throughout Africa, and eventually lived in Juba, South Sudan. These experiences all reflect a deep passion for exploration and cultural immersion. Traveling to 68 countries is a remarkable achievement, showcasing her dedication to experiencing the world in a way few people do.

Barbara's devotion to her faith and family stands as her greatest achievement. Married to Ronald for nearly 49 years, she dedicated herself to raising their three children—Erik, Kristen, and Kaari—with unwavering love and selflessness. Barbara put her family's needs above her own, exemplifying grace and patience while being their steadfast supporter.

Her faith was a cornerstone in her life, guiding her role as a mother and fueling her active involvement in church life. Barbara served 12 years on the church council and taught Sunday School for nearly two decades, shaping the spiritual growth of many.

One of Barbara’s greatest joys came from being a grandmother to her 10 grandchildren. She delighted in recreating her cherished childhood memories at the lake, watching the grandchildren enjoy all of the water activities, engaging in crafts, and offering words of encouragement. Barbara's enthusiasm and involvement in her grandchildren's lives created lasting, joyful memories for her family and brought her immense fulfillment. Additionally, her passion and love for oil painting and playing the piano will always be cherished.

Barbara’s passion for education was unparalleled both in and out of the classroom. As a secondary art teacher for over 20 years and an adjunct professor for one year, she inspired countless students through her innovative approach and boundless enthusiasm. Her contributions to education were further highlighted by her being published six times and presenting at 10 national conferences. Barbara received over 15 awards and recognitions, taking her work to international stages in Japan, Russia, and China. She also enjoyed numerous art exhibitions as both a solo artist and exhibitor.

Barbara is survived by her mother, Phyllis, her siblings Bonnie, Beverly and Brian, her husband, Ronald, her three children Erik, Kristen (Chris), and Kaari (Greg) and her 10 grandchildren: Colin, Addison, Harrison, Aiden, Owen, Ashlyn, Connor, Max, Sam and Julianna. She is preceded in death by her father, Ronald, and her brother, Bill, and her grandson, Hudson.
