BARBARA J. COATE, age 86, of Piqua, passed away at 11:29 AM on Sunday January 5, 2025 at Fair Haven Shelby County Home in Sidney, OH. She was born in Lawrenceburg, TN on December 12, 1938 to the late Elmer and Violet (Hardy) Dockery. On March 30, 1957 in Sidney, OH she married Joseph R. Coate and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2011 after 53 years of marriage.
Barbara is survived by three sons and daughter-in-law: Randy (Jackie) Coate, Troy, OH, Richard Coate, Piqua, OH and Ronald Coate, Piqua, OH; one step-brother: Gary Winemiller, Largo, Florida; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson: Ronny Coate, twin great-grandsons: Parker Jutte and Elliot Jutte.
Barbara graduated from Sidney High School in 1956. She was a member of Mid-County Church of Christ in Troy, OH where she helped with funeral dinners and in many other aspects of the church's outreaches. Barbara was a Nurse's Assistant at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, OH and at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, OH for 10 years. She was the manager of Piqua East Mall for seven years.
Barbara loved to sketch and paint pictures. She enjoyed playing cards and playing Bingo with her mom. Barbara especially loved spending time with her family. You could always count on Barbara to capture the precious family memories with her camera.
A service to honor Barbara's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday January 10, 2025 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, OH with Pastor Ralph Royce officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua, OH. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Church of Christ, 1580 N. Dorset, Troy, OH 45373. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.melcher-sowers.com.
