Barbara A. Nickel, 89, of Thompsontown, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewistown. Born on April 26, 1936, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, she is a daughter of the late Ralph Forrest and Beulah Agnes (Rice) Pannebaker. Her husband, Earl R. Nickel, preceded her in death on August 5, 2024. She is survived by her children, Larry Swartz and his companion Deborah Kratzer, Althea Souders and family, Clara Meadows and family, and Rebecca Ohneck and family; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Dustin and son-in-law, David Dustin; and her siblings, Martha Wilson, Catherine Hook, and Ronald Pannebaker. Barbara was a proud homemaker who enjoyed canning, camping, gardening, and spending time with her family. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Rev. Gary Krabill officiating. Interment will follow in Maze Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Nickel's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
