Betty R. Contreras, 77, beloved Daughter, Sister, Wife, Aunt, Mother and Friend was called to her eternal resting place on May 2, 2023.
She entered this world on September 19, 1945 in Bradenton, FL, born to Pedro and Betty Villarreal.
Mrs. Betty Contreras earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Texas in Austin. Her professional career started at St. Peter's elementary school, then expanded to the Laredo Independent School District for over forty years. She retired as Christen Middle School's librarian, where she held an Autovisual Club, was part of the Faculty Club and was involved in the bowling team. Mrs. Contreras was also part of the faculty at Laredo Community College where she taught citizenship and ESL classes.
In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling and visiting her grandchildren wherever they were stationed. She loved getting together with friends for the Teacher Birthday Club.
Mrs. Contreras is preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Betty Villarreal.
She is survived by her husband Felipe Contreras Sr, USN retired, children: Liza (Manuel) Arriaga USN Retired and Felipe (Gigi) Contreras Jr, grandchildren: Alexander (Casie Walton) Arriaga, Kristian (Brice) Civiletti, sisters: Sylvia J. (Gilberto) Barrera Sr., and Mary Frances Kinchloe. Also surviving her are numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Services for Mrs. Betty Contreras will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and a rosary will be held at 7:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Home with Rev. Deacon Roger Martinez officiating.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, departing the funeral home at 10:30 am. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
The family would like relatives and friends to wear shades of purple in honor of her favorite color.
Interment will follow to Laredo City Cemetery at 12:30 PM in Laredo, Texas.
