Beverly Jane Crosslyne Penna, 97, was welcomed into Heaven on July 5, 2025. She is now reunited and rejoicing, with her late, loving husband of 70 years, William Stanley Penna, Sr.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, William Stanley Penna, Jr (Janie), Guy Edward Penna (Kanitha) and Priscilla Cordelia Penna Helm (Darrell); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many other loving extended family members and friends.
Beverly was born on August 12, 1927. She lived most of her life in St Matthew's and Crescent Hill. She graduated from Atherton High School, which was an all-girls school at that time. During and after high school, Beverly worked in offices as a receptionist. She was a homemaker while her children were young. Later, Beverly became known as the ultimate secretary and worked for local businesses like Bunton's, Brentom's, and GE. She also worked as the administrative assistant to the chair of the Department of Cardiology at the University of Louisville.
Everyone who knew Beverly, knew her as "Mama Penna" and were treated as part of her family. All were welcome in her home and many who had no other local family, would spend the holidays as part of the Penna family.
Although she held many earthly titles like wife, mother, den mother, granny, friend, and secretary, her most important identity was found in Christ.
Mama Penna was an active member of the New Covenant Church of God. She taught Sunday School, worked Vacation Bible School, and coordinated the nursery ministry. Over the years, she served as the Pastor's secretary, Women's Ministries secretary and treasurer, and later as the Women's Ministries Vice President. Mama Penna made sure anyone who wanted to be at church, had a way there and spent many years picking up widows for church.
Along with her Bible filled with her handwritten notes, she leaves a legacy of faithfulness in prayer, trust in God, and serving Him.
Visitation for Beverly will be 3-7 pm Monday July 14, 2025 at the New Covenant Church, 1272 Gilmore Lane, Louisville, Kentucky 40213. Funeral Service will be 11:30 am Tuesday July 15, 2025 at the church with burial to follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, Kentucky.
Due to severe allergies, the family requests no floral gifts. In lieu of flowers, please honor Beverly by making a donation in her name to New Covenant Church of God Building Fund or the charity of your choice.

Many good visits and good dinners with my friend and
neighbor Beverly. We remained good buds even after I sold the house and moved to Florida. I tried to visit her every time I came to Louisville. Love that woman.
