Bob Simons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Click Funeral Home - Farragut Chapel on Sep. 22, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Robert James Simons passed into eternal life on September 14, 2025 in Knoxville, Tennessee

at the age of 77. Bob is survived by his wife Linda, his children Heather and Benjamin, his

brother Michael (Magdalene Birk-Simons) Simons, and his nephew Marcus (Sonya) Melzer. He

was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Simons and his sister and her

husband, Nancianne and Jerome Melzer.

A memorial service will be held for Bob on Sunday, September 28 at Click Funeral Home,

Farragut, Tennessee. Visitation starts at 2:00 with the service starting at 3:00.

Born and reared in Dayton, Ohio, Bob graduated from Chaminade Catholic High School, later

earning degrees in psychology, mechanical engineering, and nuclear engineering from the

Universities of Notre Dame, Dayton, and Cincinnati respectively. He worked for many years at

his family's business, Simons Cadillac, and later became a nuclear engineer for Edison

International in California. After retiring he and his family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. In

retirement he obtained a certificate in machine tooling from the Tennessee College of Applied

Technology simply for the fun of it.

He took great pride in sharing his knowledge with his children, offering guidance and support in

every stage of life. A loving and caring husband, he fully supported Linda in her career and later

in her genealogy and lineage society endeavors. An accomplished engineer, he pursued

learning with curiosity and enthusiasm, always embracing new interests and challenges. He

especially loved studying the Bible with the Prime Timers group at church, contributing his

unique questions and thoughts on texts. He also cherished time spent watching Formula 1

racing and college football, and listening to all types of music, especially classical works.

Above all, he will be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, kindness to others, and the

playful spirit that made him the best at a game of checkers.
