It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Chief Deputy Brent Keith Walter, Sr., a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and respected member of the law enforcement community. Brent was born on July 22, 1957, in Pasadena, Texas, to Harvey Lee and Lois Ann (Stegall) Walter. He departed this life on August 27, 2025, at the age of 68 years.
Brent dedicated forty-six years of his life to public service. After first trying his hand as a farrier and volunteering as a firefighter for a number of years, Brent embarked on a career in law enforcement at the police academy. It was there where Brent received his first taste of a genuine camaraderie that would ultimately bond and unite his law enforcement brothers and sisters for life. Following graduation from the academy, Brent served the City of Houston with distinction for twenty-one years. After relocating his family to Leon County in 1998, Brent was hired by the Leon County Sheriff's office where he entered as a patrol deputy, later promoting to Chief Investigator, and eventually earning the position of Chief Deputy; a title Brent dutifully held until his passing. Throughout his years in law enforcement, Brent exemplified integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to protecting and serving his community. During his tenure, he imparted a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and experience that served to shape and mold many lives.
Brent was married to his beloved wife, Regina (Delacerda) Walter, for nearly forty-five years before her passing. Their love was a testament to the bond of family, and Brent cherished her deeply, carrying her memory with him throughout his life. He was devoted not only to his community but also to his family. Brent adored becoming a dad and later a granddad. He possessed tough skin, yet a soft heart, and his family was the center of his universe. Brent's Christian faith was an important aspect of his life. He was a faithful member of Centerville Church of Christ serving in various capacities over the years.
Throughout his life, and even amidst his illness, Brent maintained a wonderful sense of humor, lighting up the lives of those around him with his warmth and laughter. He especially enjoyed being told by his children that he was "lookin' good." Brent often reminded his children that their last name, Walter, meant "mighty warrior," a reflection of his own strength and resilience.
Brent was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Walter; wife, Regina Walter; and niece, Jennifer Flores. He is survived by his father, Harvey Walter of Deer Park; children, Nesha Flagg (Greg) of Splendora, Brent Walter, II (Ashley) of Centerville, and Joseph Walter (Skylar) of New Caney; grandchildren, Callie and Jayde Flagg and Adeline and Isabella Walter; sister, Brenda Armstrong (James) of Pearland; brother, Randy Walter (Kim) of Bourne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, special friends, and a host of law enforcement brothers and sisters.
A funeral service to honor Brent's life will be held on September 1, 2025, a day that Brent held close to his heart which honored the marriage union between he and his bride, Regina. The service will begin at 11 A.M. at the Cowboy Church of Leon County. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place beginning at 10 A.M. Brent will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, where his legacy as a loving father, devoted husband, distinguished police officer, and mighty warrior will forever be cherished.
