Bret Willard Brooks, 23, beloved son, brother, uncle, and grandson, passed away suddenly on September 11, 2023, in Cedar City, Utah.
Bret came into this world eight minutes before his twin Brody on January 17, 2000, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Cameron and Kim Brooks. He moved with his family to Cedar City when he was 5 years old and graduated Canyon View High School in 2018. Bret comes from a big family with 4 older siblings and a twin brother, Brody. Since early childhood, he and his brothers loved anything outdoors, including catching lizards, fishing, and playing baseball. Bret and his twin brother, Brody, had the unique experience of playing for Team Utah in the Little League World Series Regional Tournament. Following high school, he worked as a ranch hand at Frehner's Ranch in New Harmony, as well as the SUU Post Office. Bret joined the National Guard and became a Transport Operator with the rank of Specialist, his MOS was 88M. He enjoyed attending drills and advanced training. In the last year, he began working for family, Ryan and Dustin Carter, at Carter Enterprises. He enjoyed learning how to operate heavy equipment and learning other trades. He loved spending time with his family, and especially enjoyed going on family trips. Bret had a soft spot in his heart for his many nieces and nephews and was often found carrying one of the babies around the house. Bret was naturally quiet and kind, loved animals (especially his cat) and family. Bret will be missed immensely by many and will be remembered with love.
Bret is survived by his parents, Cameron and Kim Brooks; his siblings: Mandy (Scott) Boehme, Meagan (Ryan) Carter, Madison (Justin) Hugie, Brayden Brooks, and Brody Brooks; his grandmother Shirley Asplund; and his nieces and nephews, Cameron, Ana, Kai, Case, Violet, Jones, Bo, Banks, Griffin, and Reggie.
Bret is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Dawn Brooks; maternal grandpa Peter Asplund.

Regardless of the trials of a day, you could always count on Bret to have the largest smile on his face. I think that he had that amazing smile even while he slept.

Bret always had a smile on. Even if I had him doing push-ups for something he and his battle did. Continue to smile on us brother. UNTIL VALHALLA!!!!
