Brian Francis Kooopman "Hunter", age 63, of Highwood, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. Brian was born on September 18, 1961, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Robert and Karen (Hunter) Koopman.
A proud graduate of Highland Park High School class of 1979, Brian was known for his boundless energy and unmatched skill set. He was a true "jack of all trades" with a talent for everything from plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry, to roofing, siding, and janitorial services. As the owner of his own business, Koopman Construction and Hunter the Hammer Services, Brian took pride in helping others, always quick to lend a hand and eager to tackle any project. His work ethic and commitment to his craft were evident in every job he took on.
In addition to his work in construction, Brian had a passion for the unique, even taking on stunt work for the movie Heaven Is Hell. He was a true adventurer at heart, always ready to try something new and embrace life with a sense of humor and enthusiasm that those around him admired.
Brian is survived by his beloved parents, Bob and Karen Koopman of Highwood; his dear brother, Robert Koopman of Highland Park; and his loving sister, Michelle Harding (the late Scott) of Highwood. He was a fond uncle to Melissa, Stephanie, Christina, and Kai, and a proud great uncle to Mia Maria, Tgripp Owen, Emily Kaye, Domenic, Jackson Keith, Winter Lou, and Lucie Ramona.
Funeral arrangements are pending. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lake Forest. In honoring Brian's spirit, his family invites those who knew him to remember his legacy of hard work, kind-heartedness, and the joy he brought to those around him.

I met Brian at the Alano Club in Waukegan. He shared wisdom that, at the time, I didn't have ears to understand. As I look back now, his words ring. He was a wise, kind man and I'm sure he will be missed. RIP, brother Briab

Sharing a few more from the days at St James.

Brian was a great friend, always there for you, easy to talk with, made you comfortable, could bring about a laugh. As we continued to grow through life, he hosted my bachelorette party at Hunters, he DJ´d at my wedding with Kevin, he helped us throughout the years at our house, and always enjoyed run-ins and catching up at South Park.

While you will certainly be missed Brian, I know we will meet again and can´t wait to see your smile and get another hug - much love.

I just loved Brian, he was a great DJ and he was the DJ at my wedding. Years later he spruced up my kitchen. He refused to cut corners and worked in my hot garage all day, in the heat, with a bad hip. He did it all with a great attitude. His smile really did light up a room and I loved watching his roll around with the dogs at the South Park picnics. Sending so much love to his family at this time.
