Carl Bowman of Louisville passed away at the age of 53 on Friday, August 26th, 2022.
Everything that Carl Bowman did in life always demonstrated his virtue of caring for others. He was extremely intelligent and always concerned about those in the margins and would present their points of view when in discussion with others. His friends always knew that Carl would argue for those not treated justly or those neglected.
Early in his working life, his love of cooking took him into some of Louisville s best kitchens. He had a reputation for creating delicious food presented in a creative way. He received a B.A. in political science from the University of Louisville. Midway in his career, he attended the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor. After passing the bar, he began a solo law practice focused on family law, wills and trusts. Later, he took a position in federal government service.
Carl was an avid reader and had a consummate knowledge of history. He could trace historical events and movements from their inception to the present day and explain how current events had their roots in the past and what could be done to correct them.
He loved to golf, kayak, and fish and did it often. The outdoors was a source of peace and tranquility for him. A modest guy, he never told any fish stories, but he did have impressive catches that made him return to the lakes time after time.
Carl was a wonderful son, brother, cousin, nephew and friend. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Bowman, and father,William S. Bowman (Leslye); his sisters, Annette Riessen (Guy), Charlotte Baker, Evelyn Bowman, Shannon Phlegar (Greg),;brother, Michael Bowman (Kathy), and his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 3-6pm Thursday at Highlands Funeral Home 3331 Taylorsville Road, with a Celebration of Life starting at 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Carter Center or Harbor House.
