Carol A. Gouveia, age 80 of Corning, NY, died on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born on September 19, 1944 in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Miller) Velie. Carol was a graduate St. Patrick's School, Corning Free Academy, class of 1962 and later earned her Associate's Degree from Corning Community College. She married Joseph E. Gouveia on August 7, 1965. Carol worked briefly for Corning, Inc., before working alongside her husband as the business manager for Frank the Tailor on Market Street. If you frequented their business, you would likely be greeted by their beloved dog, Dutchess.
Carol and Joe enjoyed spending summers at their lake home on Keuka Lake. They hosted many family gatherings - including weekend get togethers, pig roasts and Lighting of the Lake celebrations. That home was truly their "happy place". When they weren't at the lake, they enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with family and friends.
Carol is survived by her husband, Joseph Gouveia; sister, Sandra (Charles) Lepkowski of Corning, NY; brothers: James E. Velie of Romulus, NY, G. Edward (Deanna) Velie of Windsor, CO; brother-in-law, John (Barbara) Gouveia of Myrtle Beach, SC; nieces and nephews: John (Renee) Gouveia, Melanie (Becket) Anastasio of Corning, NY, Paul (Gwen) Lepkowski of Avon, NY, Christina (Richard) Kimble of Corning, NY, Ann (Brett) Cochran of Campbell, NY, Daniel Velie of Painted Post, NY, David (Suzi) Lepkowski of Spencerport, NY, Brian (Katherine) Velie of New Orleans, LA, Neil (Jessica) Velie of Lakeville, MN; and many great nieces and nephews.
