Cecilia Ann "Annie" Wicke Pendleton left us on May 10, 2025. She left us, and we grieve, but only for ourselves. There can be no doubt that she is with God now.
She heard God in her music and saw God in her beloved back yard and felt God in the sunshine. She soared with Him in the cedar waxwings that visited the middle mulberry tree. And now she can hear the most perfect and joyous of music and witness the entirety of God's creation and bear the full light of God's gaze.
Annie married her loving and caring partner of 38 years, Gilbert Pendleton, and together they brought into this world two daughters, Jessica Lynn and Sally Beth Pendleton. Annie is a graduate of Bellarmine College, Assumption High School and St. Barnabas Grade School. Annie began her music ministry in 4th grade, playing the organ for school Masses. She played the organ and piano at many parishes, but found a permanent home at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, where she was an organist for many years, until the time of her death. She also played the piano and organ at countless weddings and funerals. Through her music she found a community of friends and colleagues in other organists and pianists, cantors, and pastors. Annie was also an accomplished athlete. Volleyball was her true sport, where she shined as both a setter and a hitter. She made many close friends in the volleyball community, but none closer nor so perfectly paired as Gilbert Pendleton, husband. Annie never waited to be asked for help, but gave it freely whenever and wherever she saw the need.
Annie retired from Humana, where she was a systems analyst project manager.
She is predeceased by her parents, Alvin William and Mary Alice (Watkins) Wicke; brothers, William Lynn and Richard Louis Wicke; and sister, Joyce Elaine Wicke. She also leaves behind sisters, Mary Elizabeth Wicke and Margaret Anne Waugh; and brothers, Alvin Lawrence, Michael Wayne, and Brian Joseph Wicke. She is also a treasured aunt to eleven nieces and five nephews.
She was an avid gardener and landscaper, transforming her backyard into a private arboretum and botanical garden. She loved giving tours of her yard, introducing each tree, bush and plant, and explaining how it came to find a home there. She loved and cared for the cats that came into her home and yard, and guarded the
birds against their predation. She had a special place in her affections for Milo, though she would never tell that to the other cats.
Our grief will have its due, but it will not eclipse our Faith that we will see her again. "For now, we see in a mirror, darkly; but then, face to face."
