Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heald Funeral Home - Saint Albans on Jun. 22, 2024.
Chad Lapointe, a lifelong resident of Highgate, VT passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2024, at his home. Chad was the "unofficial mayor of Highgate" knowing just about everyone in town. He could go anywhere in Northwestern, VT and know someone as well.
As a teenager, Chad found that he had a talent for fixing cars. Together with his father, Pete Lapointe, they opened Lapointe Auto on the family property in Highgate and began fixing cars. They worked side by side doing mechanical and body work. Upon graduation from Missisquoi Valley Union high school in 1991, Chad enrolled in Wyoming Tech in
Laramie, Wyoming and concentrated on automotive technology. Upon graduation in 1993, he returned to the family business and together with his father started building their brand. Chad became known as a go to person in the area for Diesel work, boat repair, car interior restoration, and later in life pulling trucks. In 2010, Chad lost his father, partner, and best friend Pete, but he continued on with the business. In 2012, a fire in the shop burned it and the family home to the ground. Chad rebounded from all of this and rebuilt his shop and his mother's home. Like the name of Chad's pulling truck, the Phoenix, he rose from the ashes and built his business back. This is one of Chad's legacy, he also found a way to rise from whatever pushed him down. His other legacy is the number of lives that he touched and friends he made. Chad's friends' number in the hundreds and he was the guy everyone could count on to help when it was needed.
Chad is survived by his longtime girlfriend Bridgette Hammond and her two sons Benjamin Brassord and Reilly Miller of Highgate, his son Logan Lapointe of Swanton, his mother Louise Lapointe of Highgate, sister Lisa Plaisance and her husband Mike of Lockport, LA, brother Eric Lapointe of California, and sister Debbie Boomhover and her husband John of Fairfield as well as several aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins. Chad was predeceased by his father Gerard "Pete" Lapointe, his favorite uncle Marcel Lapointe, and his niece L'angelle Plaisance. Chad also leaves behind his two favorite pet companions Poppy and Panda who were always by his side. The family would also like to thank Luke Loiselle, Pat Loiselle, and Garrett Allaire for their help in finding Chad and their continued support of the family.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 29, 2024, at the Highgate Sports Arena, 243 Gore Road, Highgate Center from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own chairs. During this celebration, the family will be asking people to share any remarks or memories of Chad so that his memory can be happily celebrated.
Chad's family asks that memorials in his name be made to the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 189,
Highgate Center, Vermont 05459.
