Charlene M. Dickes, 94, of Huntertown, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at the Towne House Retirement Community.
She was born on June 20, 1931, in Huntertown, to the late Raymond and Grace (Johnston) Smith. Charlene graduated from Huntertown High School in 1949 and continued her education at International Business College, earning her degree in 1950.
On December 23, 1950, Charlene married the love of her life, Philip Dickes. Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion until his passing on September 30, 2022. Charlene dedicated 23 years of her professional life to Central Soya, where she served as the Marine Department's Operations Manager, a role that showcased her exceptional organizational skills and commitment to excellence.
Charlene was a member of the Huntertown United Methodist Church. She also contributed to the community through her involvement with the Zonta Club of Fort Wayne and the Eastern Star, reflecting her belief in service and fellowship. In her personal life, she found joy in reading and was an avid computer enthusiast, always eager to engage with the ever-evolving world of technology.
She is survived by a niece, Debra Dickes; three nephews, Duane (Sue), Darryl (Laura), and David (Susan) Dickes.
The family would like to thank Park Place for their care of Charlene. They would especially like to thank the staff at the Towne House for their love and care of Charlene over the last two years.
Funeral services will be held on March 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel. A public viewing beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Following the service, Charlene will be laid to rest at the Huntertown Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Hospital or the Towne House Employee Appreciation Fund.
