Charles Fitzgerald Amsden, born in 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Charles and Anne Kathleen Amsden, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. Chuck was the beloved husband of Sheila P. Amsden (nee' Commenator), his devoted wife of 64 years. Together, they shared a life filled with joy, adventure, and cherished memories.
Chuck was a proud father to his daughters, Louise (Chris) LaFaive and Margaret (Kathleen O'Bryan) Amsden, who were the light of his life. He was also a doting grandfather to Charles LaFaive, Dalton Coad and a beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews who will always remember his warmth and gentle spirit.
Chuck graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1955, he worked at Michigan Consolidated Gas Company while pursuing his undergraduate degree in education from Wayne State University. He later went on to obtain his master's degree in reading and special education from Oakland University. A dedicated educator, Chuck taught for 27 years at Warren Woods Public Schools, where he inspired countless students with his passion for learning and his unwavering commitment to their success. His influence extended beyond the classroom, as he touched the lives of many colleagues and friends with his wisdom and generosity.
Chuck was an avid fisherman and golfer, spending many peaceful hours by the water or on the green, enjoying the beauty of nature. He was also enjoyed tinkering in his wood shop and was a voracious reader, always eager to explore new ideas and stories. His favorite place on earth was Stag Island, Canada, where he spent all his summers. It was there that he met the love of his life, Sheila, and together they built a haven that would become a cherished retreat for their family and friends.
Known for his friendly demeanor, Chuck was a friend to many. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and heard, leaving a positive impact on all who crossed his path. His legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Chuck will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will forever be a beacon of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to the people and passions that defined his life. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and gratitude of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Visitation on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 11am-4pm with 4pm Sharing of Memories at the Wm. I worked with Chuck at the elementary level. I remember him as being a professional and kind teacher. He had a keen sense of what his students needed in order to be successful not only in school but also in the real world. He had a teaching style that addressed his students' various levels of learning. Bill and I wish to extend our sympathy to you, Sheila and your family.

Mr. Amsden was my 6th grade teacher at Westwood Elementary School. He was an awesome teacher and we loved the open reading area he created in class. Prayers to his friends and family.
