He was born in Allentown to his wonderful parents, the late Charles and Nancy (Prather) Handwerk. Charles graduated from Allentown High School and Muhlenberg College. He received a Master's Degree in Education from Lehigh University. Charles taught school for two years in Columbia, PA; then 32 years as a Math teacher at Salisbury Middle School. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After his retirement, Charles enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors: His loving wife, Joyce; son, Keith L. Braim and his wife Pamela of Salisbury Township; daughter, Rosaline F. Reinert of Allentown; 2 nephews; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charles was also preceded in death by a sister Ruby Nicholas and infant sister Carolina.
Services: No services will be held at his request. Arrangements are entrusted to the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, Allentown.

Charlie and I were friends since 1966 when I first met him . He was head teacher at Salisbury Elementary School and I was a rookie teacher. I have wonderful memories of our 30 years together as Salisbury teachers. He was a mentor to me both in and out of the classroom. Both my wife and I extend our sincere sympathy to Joyce and her entire family.

"A Korean War veteran has passed away today." Charles, you are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow war veteran. The final battle is now over and peace has been restored. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow veteran.
