Charles Hegenauer Obituary

Newtown – Charles J. Hegenauer Jr, 95, passed away on February 28, 2022 after a short illness at the Bethel Health Care Center. Charles was born May 2, 1926, in Elizabeth, NJ the son of the late Charles J. Hegenauer Sr and Emma (Hoff) Hegenauer. He is also predeceased by his stepmother Anna (Wissmann) Hegenauer.
Charles left High School to enlist in the Army in 1945 to serve during World War II in Italy. After the war he met and married the love of his life, the late Helen Gmiterko, and they settled in Yonkers NY.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, June Giroux and Shirley Kelly. Surviving are his two sons, Charles J. Hegenauer III and his wife Althea, William J. Hegenauer Sr and his wife Kathi, his grandsons William J. Hegenauer Jr and Thomas J. Maguire Jr, and his wife Kat, and his great grandchildren Draven, Xavier, Torin and Dante Maguire.
A wake will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9th at the Honan Funeral Home 58 Main Street, Newtown CT followed by a service. After the service a procession will take place down to the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-On-Hudson, NY.
