Charlie Junior Abney

Charlie Junior Abney was born in Saluda, S.C to the late Mr. Frank "Buck" Abney and Clara Estelle Abney. Charlie was the second eldest of five siblings who preceded him in death: Frankie Mae, George, Terry, and Jerry Abney.
Charlie's formative years began in Harrisburg, P.A. where he started school. Eventually the family relocated to Burlington, NC. Charlie attended Jordan Sellars Highschool where he excelled as a student. He also ran track, played baseball, and football. He graduated in 1967 and married his wife, Linda Abney of 54 years.
Later, he was accepted into Marine Officer Cadet School where he elected to pursue his aspirations of earning a college degree and later went on to be one of the first African Americans to graduate from Elon College present day Elon University in 1972 after earning a degree of Bachelor's of Arts in Business Administration.
Charlie worked in textiles for more than thirty years. He retired as Shift Manager of Distribution at Gildan Activewear in July 2022.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda Abney of Greensboro, one daughter, Kimberly Abney, and one son Frank Abney and six grandchildren: Jazmyne, Sidney, Sean, Krystian, Sanaa, and Simone.
There are no words to describe the depth of the family's sorrow, but we hold onto Isaiah 41:10: Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
