Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Jun. 6, 2024.
In the early morning hours of June 5, 2024, Christopher Aaron Sykes, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away from this life at the age of 50. Christopher was born in Oklahoma City on July 13, 1973.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gary W. Sykes, his brother, Wayne Sykes, grandparents Leon and Joan Sykes, and Murray and Dolores Smith, and his beloved aunt, Teresa Smith. He also left behind his best friend, Zack Howell, who stood by him through the good times, and the bad.
Christopher is survived by his son, Dustin Sykes and wife Kelsey of
Howe, Texas; his grandchildren, Maverick Sykes, and Hallie Sykes; his mother, Amber Klenieski and stepfather Thomas of Alex, Oklahoma; sister Jennifer Sykes and niece Marissa Davis, also of Alex, as well as many more loving family members and friends.
Christopher graduated from Westmoore High School in 1992. He enjoyed playing baseball as a youngster and loved watching Saturday morning cartoons such as Speed Racer and television shows, like the Dukes of Hazard. He also loved going with his brother, sister, and cousins to watch professional wrestling matches in the WWE. Chris grew up in and out of arcades playing video games with his brother and cousins. Also, one of his favorites games to play with his brother and cousins was Dungeons and Dragons. Chris developed a lifelong fondness for the outdoors early on. He loved camping, going to the lake, swimming, fishing, water skiing, skateboarding, and especially riding dirt bikes.
After becoming a young father, Chris worked various jobs, and often supplemented his income cleaning carpets for his business, Chris's Carpet Cleaning. He enjoyed working for Fred Jones Ford as a transmission assembler, and he also worked as a plumber's apprentice before suffering a work-related accident which led to his inability to work. Christopher was kind, loving, and funny. In his free time away from work, he enjoyed watching his son Dustin play football; he loved watching OU Sooners and Dallas Cowboy football games; and also enjoyed bowling and shooting pool. He was a music enthusiast who loved listening to 70s classics like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and the Steve Miller Band. He also liked the 80s and 90s rock bands, like Poison, and Guns and Roses, and Kid Rock. Yet, of the many things that brought him happiness in this life, Christopher treasured time spent with the people he loved most of all. He looked forward to any quality time with his family, especially around the holidays when everyone could be together. He also had a special bond with his Uncle Russell, and enjoyed many weekends with him, watching football and hanging out.
As we reflect upon a life lost far too soon, let us remember Chris for his hardworking nature, his keen sense of humor, the many passions and pursuits that brought him joy, and his unwavering love for his family. May he find peace in his new eternal adventure beyond.
