Cindy Spears

YORKTOWN- Cynthia "Cindy" Spears, 76, passed away early Monday morning, December 18, 2023, peacefully at her home surrounded by her children.
She was born on February 3, 1947 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Lands. Both of her parents preceded her in death. Cindy married Jack Spears on November 27, 1965. They were married over 43 years prior to his death in January, 2009.
Cindy graduated from Burris High School in 1965 and attended Ball State University. After having four children, she went back to school to earn her RN degree from Anderson University in December, 1978. Education was of the utmost importance to Cindy. Jack and Cindy instilled this in their four children whom all went on to receive their respective college degrees. She retired from Ball Memorial Hospital and Mid-America Outpatient Surgery Center.
She was a member of the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce, Yorktown Board of Zoning Appeals, served on many Boards in Yorktown, Wednesday Morning Ladies Bowling League, two euchre clubs, and a 50-plus year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work and was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Following Jack's death, she enjoyed companionship with Don Gillentine until his death in the Spring of 2023.
Cindy leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Jennifer Vise and Mary Fitzgerald, sons, Doug Spears and Steven Spears (Rebecca Leonard); nine grandchildren, Alex, Sarah and Katie Vise, Isabelle and Sofia Fitzgerald, Chris, Oliver and Oscar Spears and Pearl Spears.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 820 E. Charles Street, Muncie, with Father David Hellmann presiding. Entombment will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery Mausoleum.
Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, Muncie, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Nursing Honor Guard of Delaware County will each conduct a memorial service, starting at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary.
