With extremely heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of our beloved Clarence Joseph Gibson, "Mr. Gibson", born to mother, Ophia "Opal" Madeleine Silvers, and father, Harry Gibson, on June 8, 1934, who peacefully passed away on the evening of June 8, 2025, at the age of 91, in Black Mountain, NC.
Clarence was born, raised and loved the Swannanoa/Black Mountain valley. He fondly spoke of his years at Charles D. Owen Manufacturing only to retire and then decide to work security at Charles D. Owen High School- a job he absolutely adored.
Clarence was a cherished and loving Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather, Grandfather-in-law, Great Grandfather, Great- Great Grandfather and dear friend to many. His legacy will be remembered through his kind heart, unwavering love for his family, amazing life stories he shared with all who knew him, and his rare gift of leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Deborah "Debbie" Gregory, who passed in February of 2023. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Beverly; his children, Terry, Ricky (Sandy), Melissa, and Chris (Aimee); his grandchildren, Melinda (Toby), Jeremy, Brandon, Crystal, Justin, and Travis; his great grandchildren, Kyla, Carrington, Tyler, Nevaeh, Michael Zaine, Avery, Gaven, Delilah, and Jude, two great-great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; one grandson-in-law; one granddaughter-in-law and great grandchildren-in-law.
"Papaw, you will be forever loved and deeply missed. May you find Momma and both your souls be resting in peace, together, with God."
The family sincerely thanks everyone for their thoughts, prayers and respect for privacy in this time of mourning.
