Mr. Clarence Wright Meeler, 90, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Chateau Pines Assisted Living in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be 2pm until 4pm Sunday, February 25, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Services will be 10am Monday, February 26, at the funeral home with burial to follow in Lakeland Place Memorial Park on Lakeland Drive in Brandon, MS.
Wright was born on August 30, 1933, in Alton, Virginia, the 5th of 8 children and grew up on a tobacco farm. He learned early the value of hard work and being responsible. While studying Industrial Engineering at Virginia Tech, Wright met Donna Ogle and they were married on August 25, 1956. He served in the US Army after college before starting his Engineering career. The Meelers had 3 children, Wade, Linda and Donald, and were married 57 years until Donna’s death in 2014. While Virginia was always “home”, Wright lived most of his adult years in Mississippi and retired from Armstrong World Industries after a 32-year career as an Industrial Engineer. Wright was happiest spending time with his family, sharing a story and a laugh. He always had a bounce in his step and a smile on his face. He made many special memories with his children and grandchildren at the beach each summer. Wright enjoyed being outside and working with wood, specifically building furniture and toys after he retired. He was an avid Virginia Tech and Mississippi State sports fan.
Wright was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Ogle Meeler; parents, Willie Floyd and Mary Murray Meeler; a sister Louise Hawley and 5 brothers Jesse, W. F., Murray, Jack and Francis Meeler.
Wright is survived by his daughter, Linda Alford (Kevin) of Vicksburg, MS; two sons, Wade Meeler of Brandon, Donald Meeler (Ellen) of Brandon; three grandchildren, Brian Switzer (Daisy) of Los Gatos, CA, Amanda Meeler of Brandon, and Alison Meeler of Starkville; two great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Switzer and Jackson Wright Switzer, both of CA; two step grandchildren, Morgan and Aden Alford of Vicksburg. He is also survived by his youngest brother, MacArthur Meeler (Kate) of Sutherlin, VA, sister-in-law Elizabeth Ogle of Brandon, MS, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
A special thank you from the family to the staff of Chateau Pines Assisted Living in Brandon and Gentiva Hospice in Flowood, for their exceptional care and love of our Dad in the final months of his life.
