Constance Pomposelli (nee Benedetto) passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Constance (Connie) was born in New York City to Natale and Catherine Benedetto. She and her siblings grew up in an orphanage overcoming tremendous hardship. She later attended Cathedral High, an affiliate of St. Patrick's Cathedral. After graduation, Connie married her beloved husband Frank in 1950 and moved to Clifton. They spent the next 73 wonderful years building their life together while raising their four children, enjoying their summer home on Chadwick Island, taking family ski trips and traveling.
When her youngest child started school, Connie enrolled in Montclair State College, earned her degrees in math and education, and began her career as an educator which she truly enjoyed. She started as a high school mathematics teacher and then became Supervisor of Mathematics Education for students in grades six through 12. She served as Clifton High School Vice Principal from 1980-1985. Connie then moved to the elementary schools becoming Principal of School #9 and later School #5. During her tenure as Elementary Principal, she served the District of Clifton as Committee Chair of Mathematics Education for grades K-12. Connie's interest in educating children was evident in some of the activities she instituted. She started a program called Family Math which was run in the evening and allowed parents and their children to work together to do math activities. She also initiated the program of inviting grandparents to school for a day called Special Person's Day.
After retirement, Connie worked for Montclair State University mentoring practice teachers for 15 years. She was a member of Prime Timers of St. Phillip's Parish and a Eucharistic Minister. She was also an active member of her community at the Four Seasons at Great Notch, where she and Frank moved to in 2008. She was blessed with dear friends from all facets of her life who enjoyed her many hobbies including knitting, painting, golf, Bridge and Mahjong to name a few.
Connie's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She enjoyed spending time surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren cooking Sunday dinners, going on vacations, and especially hosting her annual cookie bake weekend with her entire family. Connie was predeceased by her sisters, Marie, Ann and Donna, her brother Manny, and her brother-in-law Bob Tiberi. In addition to her beloved husband Frank, she is survived by her cherished children Dr. Frank Pomposelli and his wife Ann, Donna Emmanuelle and her husband Joe, Thomas and his wife Lori, and Dr. James Pomposelli and his wife Dr. Elizabeth Pomfret, her adored grandchildren Joe, Jessica Novy and her husband Aaron, Dr. Thomas Pomposelli and his wife Katie Hansen, Lauren Pezold and her husband Mark, Nick, Ashley, Jackie and her wife Hannah Hoster, Cassie LaGreca and her husband James, and Sophia. Connie was blessed with the love of her great grandchildren, her "extra bonuses," Harper, Sydney, Anna, Charlotte, Samuel, Sloane and James. She is also survived by her loving brother Anthony Benedetto, sister-in-law Marie Tiberi, and her nieces and nephews.
Connie will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her family will be forever grateful for her wonderful example of how to keep a large family together with much love and laughter.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 1, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave, Clifton. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 9:15 am from the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton. Connie always made me smile. I do enjoyed talking to her ( and Frank) at holiday meals. I found them interesting and in marvelous shape and I usually positioned myself near them. Connie was bright, attractive, social and accomplished! I think talking to her reminded me of talking to my mom who I miss 25 years after her passing. Connie was truly a role model for women who did it all after a very challenging start in life....will miss her
