Constance Stewart

Constance "Connie" Barrett Stewart, age 77, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at Oasis at Dodge Park in Worcester after courageously battling dementia for nine years. She was the beloved wife of Sam Stewart with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.
Connie was born on September 22, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia and was the cherished daughter of the late Harold and Viriginia Barrett. She was raised in Manchester, CT and graduated from Manchester High School. She graduated cum laude from Wheaton College in1969.
Connie and Sam married in May of 1976 in Glastonbury, CT. They renewed their wedding vows in May of 2021 to celebrate their 45 th anniversary at the West Boylston First Congregational Church.
Her notable position after college was as the toxicologist in the Connecticut Medical Examiner's Office. Later she held various part-time jobs as she raised Ben and Kate. She held a long-time position as the administrator of the United Congregational Church in Worcester where she and the family were members for many years. Later, Connie and Sam joined the West Boylston Congregational church. Connie was an advocate for people with food insecurity. She was a leader in the food pantry at both churches.
Connie was a wonderful mother to her children and partner to Sam. She loved her family and had many playful moments with her grandson Ryan. Her interests included hiking, camping, travel, music and writing. She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by family and friends alike.
In addition to her husband Sam, Connie is survived by her children Benjamin Stewart and Kathryn Stewart; her grandson Ryan Stewart- Vaquerano; and her siblings Caroline Rothberg and David Barrett.
A celebration of her life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11AM. A catered reception will follow in the church social hall. For those who are unable to attend, Connie's service will be live-streamed and available at fccsm.org/livestream
