Craig Alan Burton, of Newton, NH, and formerly of Dedham, MA, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025 at the age of 73.
Son of the late Foster William and Floris (Garry) Burton, Craig is survived by his wife, Joanne Burton (Atkinson); his son, Jason Burton of Derry, NH; and his cherished grandsons, Charles Carey-Burton and Mason Carey-Dudzisz. He was a loving brother to Floris “Betsy” Peters of Portland, ME, and the late William Burton of South Dennis, MA; a special brother-in-law to the late David Peters of South Dennis, MA; and a proud uncle to Tracy Rud of Canton, GA, as well as Heather Peters and Kristen de Oliveira, both of Portland, ME. Craig was deeply loved by his extended family and many friends.
He graduated from Dedham High School and later earned his degree from Curry College. He spent most of his career with Axcelis Technologies, where he enjoyed a long and fulfilling tenure that allowed him to travel the world. His global journeys often inspired his time in the kitchen, where Craig expressed his love of cooking through dishes influenced by the many places he visited.
Craig was known for his warmth, humor, and generous spirit. He made friends wherever he went and loved nothing more than sharing a story—or a cigar—with old friends and new. If you spotted him out and about, chances are his beloved Great Dane service dog was right there beside him—a loyal companion and a familiar sight to many.
Craig will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in Craig’s memory.
