Craig Alan Toland, passed away surrounded by his family in Albany, Oregon on the date that marked the end of a life lived with unwavering love and laughter. Born in Eugene, Oregon, on May 8, 1968, to Patricia Hillsman and embraced by his step-father Raymond Hillsman, Craig's journey was one filled with the joys of nature, the thrill of entrepreneurship, and the warmth of a close-knit family.
His early education at Central Linn High School laid the foundation for a man who would go on to make his mark in the world of business and nature. As a young man, Craig's industrious spirit shone through his work at a local sawmill. However, it was his pioneering spirit that led him to become a successful veneer broker and the proud owner of Random Width Forest Products Inc. His entrepreneurial ventures did not end there; Craig also found joy and purpose in operating Toland Tree Farm, a Christmas tree farm that became a beloved part of the community.
Craig's love for the outdoors was a constant throughout his life. He found peace and contentment in fishing on the ocean. His feet, firmly planted on the sand, he would enjoy walks along his favorite ocean beaches. The woods, too, were a sanctuary for Craig, where he would hunt and immerse himself in the tranquility of nature. His many dogs, both hunting companions and pets, were a testament to his love for animals and the simple pleasures they brought into his life.
Family was the cornerstone of Craig's world. His beloved wife, Kirsten, stood by his side as a partner in both love and life. Together, they raised two sons, Chase, 28, and Drew, 23, who inherited their father's friendly demeanor and love for the great outdoors and sports. Craig's mother, Patricia, and his step-father, Raymond, watched with pride as their son grew into a man of integrity and kindness.
Coaching was another passion that allowed Craig to extend his paternal warmth beyond his immediate family. He had a gift for guiding and encouraging not only his children but also other kids in the community. His friendly and funny nature made him a favorite among the young athletes, and his legacy as a mentor will live on in the lives he touched.
Craig's life was a canvas painted with the colors of love, humor, and friendliness. Those who knew him would speak of his loving nature, the laughter that followed his jokes, and the ease with which he made friends wherever he went. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit-a blend of kindness, wit, and camaraderie-will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.
The Toland family will hold Craig's memory close, cherishing the moments of joy and the lessons of love he imparted. As they navigate this time of loss, they take solace in knowing that Craig's life was one well-lived, marked by the laughter he shared, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he spread so generously.
Craig Alan Toland's journey on this earth may have come to a close, but the ripples of his life will continue to spread, touching the lives of all who knew him, just as the ocean waves he so loved to watch.
He is survived by his wife, Kirsten, and their sons, Chase 28 and Drew 23;
Also His parents Patricia and Raymond Hillsman, his siblings Ron Toland, Sandi Frame, Edward Hillsman and Richard Hillsman;
Many nephews and nieces that he loved very much.
Craig was Preceded in death by his father, Melvin "Bud" Toland.
A Celebration of Life will be June 21 at Toland Tree Farm for all to come and share their "Craig stories" and enjoy the day reminiscing.
