D.B.  Leatherwood, age 83, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away March 15, 2024. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 18, 2024 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Marietta, Georgia. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents Sam Albert Leatherwood and Nettie Key Leatherwood, grandson Austin Leatherwood and also five brothers and five sisters.

D.B. Leatherwood was born in July 7th, 1940 in Cartersville, Georgia.   He passed away on March 15th, 2024 after a sudden decline in health after successfully treating cancer for the past three years.  D.B. was 83 years of age.  In his childhood, D.B. was a raised in Cherry Log, Georgia under the watchful eye and guidance of his mother Nettie Leatherwood and was the youngest of 12 brother and sisters.  D.B. became a star starting guard for the team that won2 state championships at Cass Highschool (Class of '59).

D.B. started his career and worked as a technical engineer at the Union Carbide plant for over thirteen years in Cartersville.   After that, D.B. showed his Entrepreneural skills in starting several businesses in the automotive industry as well as rental properties.  He had a meticulous focus on detail and kept his vehicles in immaculate conditions.  He had over seventy-five personal vehicles over the years and would often buy a car new off a car lot, drive it for a year and bring back and sell to the same dealership for a profit.  He may be the only individual person that could pull that off.

D.B. was first and foremost a man whose enduring faith shined through his interactions with his loved ones and people he met.  He was saved early in life at the age of twelve.  He was always a dedicated and attentive church leader in several positions but really was able to show praise for his Lord and Savior through song.   Over the past fifty years, D.B. has spearheaded over a half dozen evangelic quartets that crisscrossed church and revival festivals throughout the South.  D.B.'s groups have recorded several LP's and CD's and would rehearse every Tuesday (often in the garage) for hours just in fellowship with his close friends and helping ensure the group was ready to sing and bring people closer to the Lord.

While most people would not take lawn maintenance as a hobby for retirement, D.B. was not like most people.  He took pride in having the greenest, most lush yard in the state.  He often would start before sunrise and get most of the work done before most folks his age got out of bed.  He could often be seen in the evening hours strolling the yard he had just mowed, trimmed and blowed earlier that morning and would have a bucket and his trusty lawn picker-upper filling the bucket with leaves and sweet gum balls.  D.B. was not all work, and he would venture onto the golf course with family and friends.  D.B. and Pamela, were blessed to have the good fortune of taking opportunities to travel.  They have travelled throughout the continental U.S., Hawaii, the Caribbean and Europe enjoying the scenery and time together with each other and family.

Most importantly, D.B. was a beloved husband, father, grand-father, and friend, who touched the hearts of everyone who got to know him. He lived with integrity, trying to always do right by people, and will be remembered as a model which we should all live by.

Survivors include: wife of 30 years Pamela Leatherwood of Powder Springs, GA; Bryan (Lorrie) Leatherwood of Adairsville, GA; daughter Carla Hicks of Kingston, GA son: Eric (Dayanara) Burt Powder Springs, GA; five grandchildren: Will (Meghan) Leatherwood, Christina (Austin) Hovarth, Stetson Hicks, Matthew Burt and Isabella Burt; five great-grandchildren; sister: Jeanette Jackson and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 18, 2024 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.
