Daniel J. "Danny" Schultz Jr. joined his parents Daniel J. and Margaret (Mangino) Schultz Sr. in heaven on January 24th, 2025, after a long illness due to complications from surgery. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathleen (Mauk) and three sons Brad (Dana), Mike (Meghan), and Kevin (Mary); his four grandchildren Sadie, Carter, Blake, and Elliot, who were the apple of his eye; his aunt and uncle Francis and Susan Mangino; and countless extended family members he was close with.
He was born July 5, 1951, in Warren, Ohio, and grew up in Cortland, graduating from Lakeview in 1969. After graduation Danny attended The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, where he played in the marching band. He graduated in 1973 with a degree in accounting. After graduation, Danny married his high school sweetheart Kathleen Mauk in 1973 and moved to Cleveland to begin a career with Price Waterhouse.
Soon, work brought the new couple back to Cortland and Danny began a 30+ year career with RMI Titanium in Niles, OH. They built a house in Fowler and raised their three boys, Brad, Mike, and Kevin there.
Danny spent his entire life active in his children's lives and cheering for his favorite sports teams. He coached countless sports teams his boys played on and touched many of their friend's lives through his involvement. He would go on to become the president of Mathews High School's athletic boosters when his boys outgrew his coaching. Danny was an avid slow pitch softball player in his younger days, transitioning to officiating sports when he was no longer able to participate. Later in life, he found a new passion working with the Cortland Rotary Club after his wife Kathy opened a business in Cortland. Danny loved his sports teams the Guardians (Indians), Browns, and Cavaliers, and of course his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Danny was a loyal friend and family man whose greatest joy in life was spending time with friends and family. He loved his family and friends deeply, and nothing brought him greater joy than the rare times his extended and immediate families were fortunate enough to spend time together, whether it be a holiday or a Notre Dame football tailgate party.
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Danny during memorial calling hours on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 11 to 12 noon at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.
A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday and 12 noon.
