Daniel "Dan" Mark Stingl was born on January 4, 1956 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Alfred and Josephine Stingl of McLean Virginia. His parents stressed learning and education as well as hard work to become self-sufficient and be successful. At an early age Dan showed signs of great intelligence, curiosity to constantly learn, and a natural entrepreneurial tendency. As a teenager he bought and sold old cars, fixing them up and reselling them.

Dan graduated in June 1973 from Langley High School in McLean, Virginia and then obtained a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Tufts University in June 1978. He was offered an engineering job in Texas but stated he was thinking he wanted to pursue being a doctor. To help Dan decide, his mother took him with her for 2 days to where she worked as a Head Nurse at NIH (National Institute of Health). He spent those days shadowing several doctors and announced he wanted to become a doctor. He would then complete a 2-year program in only one year receiving a master's in biomedical engineering from University of Virginia. He then completed his medical degree in June 1983 from Medical College of Virginia (MCV now VCU) in Richmond Virginia. While in school his engineering background assisted him in designing and patenting medical tools which he felt were better designed and more effective than what was available at the time. Dr. "Dan" would begin his Internship at the Cleveland Clinic in July 1984 and begin his Residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation August 1987. He would be awarded a medical degree in Ophthalmology on May 16, 1987.

From September 1987 to December 1990 Dr. Dan would work in private practice at North Dakota Eye Clinic in Grand Forks, North Dakota. In January 1991 he relocated his family to Hermiston, Oregon where he founded Eagle Eye Clinic. Here he was the sole Ophthalmologist providing eye care within a 200-mile radius. During the summer months, Dr. Dan took the family to Belize to do mission work providing eye care to those less fortunate.

In July 1997 the family moved to Florida where for the next 10 years Dr. Dan established a private practice focusing on those less fortunate for no charge at The Christian Eye Clinic in Bonita Springs, Florida. He would spend his leisure time wind sailing and going to Disney World with the children.

In March 2008 he returned to private practice at Jacksonville Ophthalmologic Associates in Jacksonville, Florida before returning to the Naples area in October 2008. For the next seven years he worked at the Montgomery Eye Center (now Center for Sight) in Naples, Florida.

On June 12, 2011, he would marry his beautiful wife of 14 years, Angela. In October 2015 the family would move to Melbourne Florida where Dr. Dan opened his own private practice, Stingl Eye Clinic making this his home until his untimely death. He dedicated his life to helping others by providing passion and care to patients, peers and the community.

In his pastime Dr. Dan enjoyed wind surfing, playing guitar, dancing with Angela, studying together and going to 7/11 for Slurpee's with Elizabeth, fishing and shooting fireworks with Alex, and fixing things inside and outside the house with Edward.

Dan's highest honor and greatest role has been that of "Dad" to six beautiful children, four daughters and two sons:
Lauren Stingl (Diego), Katherine Cynthia "KC" Rappazzo (Tim), Cybil Alexandra "Sierra" Stingl; Elizabeth, Alexander "Alex" and Edward Stingl. He was extremely proud that KC and Sierra became medical doctors and that Lauren chose to serve her country in the Navy as did Dr. Dan's father and mother.

He was also blessed to have six adored grandchildren: Luke, Madelyn, Joshua, Peter and Joel Rappazzo and Senna Stingl.

Dr. Dan is survived by three sisters and one brother: Bonnie Wolf (Tom), Sandra "Sandy" Stingl-Lee (Lawrence), David Stingl and Christina "Tina" Stingl.
