Darrel Beck

Darrel James Beck, born December 21, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Dewain J. Beck and Beverly Lois Hicks Beck, was a man who lived life with enthusiasm, faith, and a playful spirit. Eager to get started, Darrel arrived six weeks early and never slowed down. He passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and service.
In May 1966, Darrel's family moved to Alaska, where he and his brothers help build a house, spent summers on fishing boats and loved the late summer nights. By 1972, they had moved to Chicago, where he graduated high school before continuing on to Rick's College, where he met his beautiful wife, Cindie Kae Storer. From June 1973 to June 1975, Darrel served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spain, sharing his faith with unwavering dedication. On December 27, 1975, he married his "Sunshine," Cindie, beginning a wonderful journey that shined brightly for almost 50 years.
Darrel's faith guided his life. He served in numerous church callings, particularly cherishing his time with the young men and in scouting, where his youthful heart connected with those he mentored. His favorite role was as bishop of the BYU 97th student ward, where he led with wisdom and humor, often saying that adults are just grown up kids. He often quipped, "I may have to grow old, but I don't have to grow up," a motto that kept him young at heart.
For 30 years, Darrel worked as an IT specialist for the State of Utah District Court System, retiring in December 2019. From July 2021 to December 2022, he and Cindie served an MLS mission together, strengthening their bond and spreading their light and love for our Savior.
Darrel is survived by his eternal companion, Cindie Beck; children Scott Beck (Sabrina), Sunnie Barlow (Aaron), Susan Fuller (Reid), Shane Beck (Julie), Sterling Beck (Amy), and Stuart Beck (Heather); 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his childhood swing set. His family will carry forward his love, humor, faith, and testimony.
Darrel's life was a testament to living fully, loving deeply, and laughing often. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Funeral services will held Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Garden Sixth Ward Chapel, 905 North 500 West, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 – 10:45 am prior to the service. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
