Darrel G. Meyer

Darrel Gene Meyer, 73, of Mayetta, Kansas, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025. Born on November 11, 1951, in Sabetha, Kansas, Darrel was the beloved son of Walter Meyer and Estelle (Honeyman) Meyer.

Darrel spent his early childhood in the Fidelity, Kansas community before moving to Holton at the age of five. He graduated from Holton High School in 1969 and went on to build a life rooted in hard work, family, and community.

On June 26, 1976, Darrel married the love of his life, Cynthia Brucken. They built a home in Mayetta, KS in 1977 where together they raised two children, Jessica Meyer of Mayetta, KS, and Blake Meyer (Sara) of Holton, KS. He was a proud and devoted father and grandfather to Brody and Marisa Meyer, both of Holton.

Darrel dedicated 45 years of his career to Morton Buildings, beginning in 1971 as a Crewman and rising to the role of Sales Manager. His work allowed him to connect with customers across Northeast Kansas and travel the world alongside friends and colleagues.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Darrel was both a player and a coach. He played fast pitch, slow pitch softball, and baseball for many years and took great joy in coaching his children's teams. He was also a member of the Holton Country Club, where he enjoyed golf and card games-especially cribbage, where he once held a perfect hand.

Darrel faced a 25-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and longer battle with chronic back pain with unwavering strength and grace. Despite the daily challenges, he never complained and always greeted others with a smile. His resilience and positive spirit were an inspiration to all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings: Judy McGrath (James), Betty Sahagun (John), Linda Arnold (Richard), Jim Meyer (Colleen), Sally Frey, Connie Sterbenz (Doug) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle Meyer; father and step-mother, Walter and Alvina Meyer and brother-in-law, Dan Frey.

Darrel's legacy of kindness, perseverance, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2025 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Family will greet friends Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 3:00 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
