Darrell William Gardner, age 67, passed peacefully at his home in Bountiful, Utah, Sunday, September 21, 2025, after a prolonged struggle with cancer and diabetes. He was born in Logan, Utah, the son of Thurman W. "Bill" Gardner of Cedar City, Utah, (deceased) and Marjorie [Christiansen] Gardner of Central, Utah.
The third of four children, Darrell grew up in Brigham City, Utah, where he competed on the swim team, had a horse named Spook, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and snowmobiling out at Mantua. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout after organizing a cleanup of Pioneer Pond. His first jobs were picking cherries on the Nielsen farms, selling produce at Yuki’s fruit stand, milking cows at Shady Brook Dairy, and bucking hay for Higley Farm.
He graduated from Box Elder High School and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hermosillo, Mexico. After his mission, he took a job in Arizona, where his entrepreneurial skills later allowed him to found a computer and software retail business, Sigma, and later Computer Repair Centers. His favorite hobbies remained in the great outdoors as well as playing the guitar, karaoke, and cooking.
Above all else, family was everything to Darrell and was the source of his greatest joy. He is survived by his wife, Dawn [Naubert] Gardner, and their children, Laura and her daughter Belle, Sara, and Michael. He is also survived by three older sons from his first wife, Tammy [Hunsaker] Knight: Dallen with wife, Masako “Mako” [Amai] and their children: Jordan, Scottie, Paxson, and Alyssa; Rocky with wife Amanda [Watts] and their children: Kade, Ammon, Jax, Roxy, and Cambria; and Beau with wife Elizabeth “Brittany” [Allsop] and their children, Elizabeth “Rory” and Micah.
He is also survived by his mother Marge and his siblings, Valorie "Brandi" Johnston with husband Craig, Michael Gardner with wife Patricia, and Camille "Mille" Grover with husband Michael.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the church chapel at 1540 North 400 East, Bountiful, Utah, on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Darrell had said that when he passed, “Don’t have a funeral, have a party.” Given his love for westerns, western attire is encouraged at Darrell’s Going Away Party.
