It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Preston Lewis on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. David will be remembered as a cherished husband, committed father, beloved son and brother, trusted business partner, and a loyal friend to everyone. David will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his unquenchable lust for life, incredible energy and charisma, his ever-present smile and laugh, and his unbounded excitement about everything that he took an interest in. He was completely committed to the love of his life, Megan, and his two beloved children, Preston and Evangeline. While we struggle to understand this tragic boating accident, we will remember him for the immense joy he brought to our lives, and the memories we shared.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of David will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be held prior to the service at noon.
David was the oldest son of Tommy Lewis and Debbie Lee, born August 24, 1985. He grew up in West Monroe and played football at West Monroe High School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. David was always the entrepreneur, pursuing a multitude of business opportunities. His creativity and energy culminated in the perfect endeavor when he co-founded Basin Housing Venture and Century Lodging which places housing developments and food service in West Texas for oilfield workers.
David pursued many interests and hobbies, always jumping in at 100%. Whether fishing, camping, or finding Native American Indian artifacts, he learned everything he could about the subject and actively involved his friends and children in the subject. He could often be found with one of his children in tow, spending time enjoying an adventure.
To know David was to quickly feel his dynamic personality, contagious energy, and positive attitude. He could tell a story like no one else and would talk with you about anything, giving full interest and attention for hours on end. He had such passion and excitement in his approach to life and inspired everyone who came into contact with him.
David is survived by his wife and best friend, Megan, and their 2 precious children, Preston and Evangeline; his parents, Tommy and Julie Lewis, Debbie and Lynn Lee, and Richard Gardner; his brother, Daniel Lewis; his sister, Fay Zeigler; his grandfather, Reverend Gerald Lewis; and a host of nieces and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Shirley Lewis, and James and Frances Hood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Heath Lewis, Scott Lewis, Michael Baldwin, Joey Trappey, Bryant Meyer, and Fred Shields.
Memorial gifts can be provided to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
