David Pfeiffer left this world unexpectedly on May 23, 2025 – leaving it with one less exuberant, compassionate, loving, devilishly witty person who lived life to the fullest.
David was born on February 25,1953 in Santa Maria, CA to Harold and Myrle Pfeiffer, deceased. He leaves behind his saddened but grateful family: his sister, Linda Pfeiffer (Thad Jackson), brother Gary Pfeiffer (Mary Ann Bianco) and his nieces, Kristin Callahan (John Evans) and Annalise Pfeiffer (Ryan Laughlin). David was preceded in death by his wife, Jan Gregg.
David loved life, and he loved to travel. He and his wife, Jan, traveled to many parts of the world documenting their travels, with a memorable adventure being a canoe trip in Borneo. David also loved the outdoors, especially on the ranch where he moved with is family when he was 12. He loved to help his father, who was manager of Rancho Sisquoc and started the vineyard and winery there. David was very proud to have planted their very first grape vine! He also loved to race with his little brother, Gary, on his very favorite old Farmall tractor, 'El Tigre.' He loved horses and riding, which ultimately left him with lifelong health issues after being thrown and suffering a head injury during a cattle roundup at the ranch. He also loved to tease his big sister and argue politics. David was especially proud to be godfather to both of his nieces, Kristin and Annalise, who he loved dearly.
David attended UC Davis where he earned a BS in Ag Economics. During his college years, David spent several winters working at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. While at Davis, David made many lifelong friends which he has stayed close with his entire life.
David donated his time regularly for charities, as a mentor to youth and immigrants and serving food to the poor. He also had close and cherished friends, especially Bill Mitchell, from their teen and college years to starting a business together to sailing to playing chess electronically together on a weekly basis, up to the night before he passed away; and David Bonnheim, who was a business partner and friend, with weekly outings and practicing their roping together.
David's final two adventures, undertaken alone but shared with and followed closely by his family, were his solo month-long sail in his 39 ft sailboat, the Dulcinea, from Ventura CA to Hawaii; and his trip to Europe to retrace the footsteps of his father in WWII at the Battle of the Bulge.
Per his wishes, and despite the injury from his riding, David will be buried with his hat, spurs, and saddle near his home and next to his wife in Arroyo Grande. Always quick-witted, never taking himself too seriously, and full of love for life to the end, David was a unique individual, and his family and friends will miss him terribly.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the near future.
