David Joseph Umlor Jr., aged 49 of Coopersville, passed away 10 days after being diagnosed with cancer. He went peacefully at his home with family and friends at his side Monday evening August 4, 2025. David was born in Grand Rapids, MI and was raised near and graduated from Coopersville High School Class of 1994. Dave enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as well as playing guitar and singing any song that piqued his interest. He held a deep resounding joy for being a father as well as a husband. His hobby was finding new ways to surprise his family with his culinary skills as well as making up silly songs to existing melodies to light up those around him with laughter.
Dave is survived by his wife, Chelsea (Darnell) Umlor; children, Baillie (Jacob) Bryant, David Umlor III, Layn Umlor, Hudson Umlor and Cailin Umlor; father and step-mother, David Sr. (Robin) Umlor; brothers, Jeff Umlor and Stephen Umlor; stepbrothers, Derek Millis and Kyle Millis; mother-in-law, Teresa Emery, brother-in-law Shawn (Charisse) Wolters; sister-in-law, Jami (Mark “Mitch”) McMullen; many nieces, nephews and friends.
In keeping with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life Gathering to be held at Drenth Grove Park, August 29th from 4-8 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to the GoFundMe or in person at the Celebration of Life to help support the family through this season. Condolences for the family may be left on David’s guestbook at www.throopfh.com.
