Davie Morris was born on September 2, 1937, in
Columbus, Mississippi, to Willie Lee Jones and
Laura Sloan. He was baptized at an early age and
grew up in Columbus, where he attended school
before venturing to Detroit, Michigan, to begin his
adult journey.
In Detroit, Davie began working for General Mo-
tors in February 1965, where he dedicated over
three decades of service until his retirement in De-
cember 1997. Also, Davie was usher at Jerusalem
Church of God in Christ for many years. After his
retirement, he returned to his hometown of Co-
lumbus, Mississippi, in 2010.
Davie had a deep love for travel, cruising, and in-
dulging in the finer things in life. Above all, he
cherished his family. He is survived by his two children, David Moore and
Danielle Miller, along with five grandchildren, who were the joy of his life.
He departed this life on Thursday, January 9, 2025,
in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 87. Davie was
preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lee Jones
and Laura Sloan, Bonus Mother- Victoria [Sallie]
Jones and several siblings: Daisy McCottrell,
Louise Fulgham, Helen McCottrell, Allen McCot-
trell, John McCottrell, Betty [Susie] McCottrell,
George McCottrell, Matressia (Pat) Ousley, Tom-
mie Jones, and LA Hairston.
Davie leaves behind to cherish his memories his
sisters, Doris Jean Hughes, Rosie Mae McCottrell,
Johnnie Smith, Barbara Riser, Lorna Maxie and
Lillian (Gray) Murray; his son David Moore, his
daughter Danielle Miller; nieces, nephews, and a
host of extended family and friends.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
