Debra Lynn Anderson was born on June 13, 1958, to Nickel & Lenora Anderson in Oceanside California. Debra graduated from Kennedy High School in Barstow California. She then moved to San Diego California, and several places around the country before settling in Portland, Oregon in 1992.
Debra joined Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in 1992, where she served in the usher ministry, lead spiritual gifts classes, and received her certification in biblical counseling. Debra was passionate about helping people, especially women and young girls to find their spiritual direction and become strong. She did this with friends, family, co-workers, and the many women who were a part of her small groups over the years. She was a spiritual advisor and steady companion to many. Her passion and excitement to live fully showed everywhere she went. Debra laughed whole heartedly, traveled often, lived fully until and was the life of the party at work and at play.
Debra also served in the community, speaking, and ministering at various churches. She was involved with GNC (God in Charge) Ministry. She spoke on a local radio show called "The Talk it out Show." Debra loved to encourage people, and these were the various ways she did that in her community. Debra worked at The American Red Cross for over 25 years, where she passionately engaged co-workers with the same joy and encouragement that she displayed in the rest of her life.
Debra is survived by two children Kenneth Turner and Marshaé Sylvester, two grand children Alayja Turner Moore and Charlie Sylvester, siblings Kevin Anderson, Melinda Williams and Samson Anderson and her Nephews Terrence Willingham, Kevin Anderson Jr., Kenneth Anderson, and her great nephews Nathanial Willingham, Hezekih Willingham & Kihyhier Willingham. She also has a host of cousins, aunts and uncles.
Debra was loved and respected by everyone she touched. She loved her family fiercely, she poured into her friend and community with passion. She loved serving in ministry and getting her shout on for Jesus. We will miss her vigor, her excitement, and the encouragement she bestowed on us all. Rest in Power.
