Denny Wayne Wilburn of Indianapolis, IN passed away on January 20, 2024, at the age of 91. Denny was born in Tipton, IN on April 2, 1932, to the late Ralph and Ellen (Kinder) Wilburn. He graduated from Tipton High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Missouri, during the Korean War. Upon discharge, Denny went to work for AT&T, where he retired in management.
Denny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his beloved family and friends. Denny was a former member of Windsor Village Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer and Sunday school teacher. He currently attended Burge Terrace Baptist Church. Denny was also a proud member of the USS Missouri Association and the Telephone Pioneers.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ellen; brother and sister-in-law, George and Judy Wilburn; and son-in-law, Rick Kiner.
Denny is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Roberta (Gerstner) Wilburn, whom he married on November 2, 1958; children: Cindy Dillard (Larrie), Tim Wilburn (Sally) and Jennifer Kiner; grandchildren: Tyler Wilburn (Ania), Jeremy Dillard (Alyssa), Joshua Dillard, and Hope (Grant) Stemen; great-grandchildren, Brayden Dillard and Bryson Dillard; sister, Nila Overdorf (Phil); as well as many other loving extended family members and beloved friends.
Visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm on Friday, January 26, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis), where funeral services will immediately follow beginning at 1pm with Pastor Todd Curtis officiating. Military Honors will conclude the services at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Washington Park East Cemetery.
