Dewaine D. Dvorak, age 91, of
Appleton, WI, died peacefully on June 18, 2025. Born in Edgar, WI in 1933, he was the beloved son of William and Clara Dvorak. Dewaine worked at his parents' cheese factory and graduated from Edgar High School in 1951.
After high school, Dewaine enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1952 to 1956. While in the Navy, Dewaine met his future wife, Jean Fallon, and they were married on July 5, 1955. They had their wedding reception at White's Restaurant in Westport, Massachusetts, which was owned by Jean's sister and her husband. This was White's first wedding reception. Dewaine and Jean's wedding helped launch White's, which is now a Massachusetts institution, having hosted hundreds of weddings since that first one 70 years ago.
Dewaine and Jean had the first of their six children when Donna was born at the Newport Naval Hospital in May of 1956. The small family moved to Wausau, Wisconsin, where they had two more children, Ken and Bob. Benefitting from the passage of the GI Bill, Dewaine obtained his associate's degree in accounting from Wausau Technical School. Dewaine was in the first graduating class. The growing family moved back to Massachusetts, where Sharon was born, and Rhode Island, where Ron was born. They finally settled in
Appleton, Wisconsin, where their sixth child, Richard, was born in 1970.
He began his career working as an accountant, but became interested in the new field of IT. This turned into a career as a systems analyst. Dewaine's entrepreneurial spirit struck him in the 1970s, and he operated a small IT business before spending the remainder of his career working for Midtec Paper Corporation in Kimberly, Wisconsin, which later became Repap.
Baseball was Dewaine's passion, and he was a dedicated Brewers fan. He also coached baseball when the kids were younger, played golf and bowled in his free time. Dewaine was a dedicated usher with St. Pius X Church and served as the Treasurer at the Knights of Columbus. He spent decades of his life in these volunteer roles. Dewaine was a proud veteran, and one of the greatest honors of his life was receiving an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
Dewaine was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 45 years, Jean, who died in 2000. In 2003, Dewaine married his current wife, Sharon Dvorak, who has been a loving wife to Dewaine for the past 22 years. Dewaine is survived by his six children: Donna (Scott) Halleran; Ken (Janelle) Dvorak; Bob (Cary) Dvorak; Sharon (Carl) Jameson; Ron Dvorak and Richard (Olivia) Dvorak; nine grandchildren: Will, Nina, Conor, Caitlin, Trevor, Ryan, Meghan, Benjamin and Diego; two great grandchildren: Nila and Elena and a brother, Daryl (Beverly) Dvorak. Dewaine was preceded in death by his brothers: Dennis Dvorak and David Dvorak, and his sister Doreen Rockett.
Anyone who ever met Dewaine will tell you he was one of the kindest souls you will ever meet, and his dedication to helping others and leading by example was remarkable.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church (500 W. Marquette St.) Appleton, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, with Rev James Jugenheimer officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Military Honors will be performed following the Mass by VFW Post 2778 of Appleton. Burial will take place at the Historic Riverside Cemetery in Appleton.
The Dvorak family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at Prairie Home and St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care you always provided to Dewaine. Knowing he was well taken care of was very comforting to all of us.
