Dexter T. Vawters of Rockford departed this earthly life May 12, 2024 in Chicago, IL. He was born September 21, 1958 in Rockford, IL the son of Thomas and Merion Vawters. He was last employed as a stocker by Cubs Foods. Dexter was born and raised in New Zion Missionary Baptist Church frequently visiting City First and attending many of the local churches. Dexter loved to sing and share the good new of Christ He graduated from East High School.
Dexter leaves to cherish many loving memories, brother, David (Lisa) Vawters; two sisters, Delgracia (Warren) York and Beverly (Walter) Washington; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including special niece, Dr. Tinaya York. He was predeceased by his parents; Deborah Cain, Mildred Vawters,; brothers, Thomas Vawters, Joseph Vawters, Jackie Vawters, and Stephen Vawters.
Services will be held 12:00 noon, Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave. doors will be open from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
