Our brown eyed girl, our sister, and friend Diane Elaine Foley Knorr passed away into the great beyond on 13 April 2024. She was 71 years old.
Diane was born on 28 May 1952 in Ogden, Utah to Francis and Rita Foley. Growing up in Ogden, she graduated from Ogden High School. Then she moved to Logan, Utah.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree from Utah State University, Diane then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where she taught Special Education with much dedication and love for 28 years in District 91. What she found difficult about teaching, like lots of paperwork and forms to fill out, she gladly did endure so as to work at the part in which she excelled, teaching reading. Her great joy came in seeing a child's face light up and their confidence build as they acquired the ability to read. She will be greatly missed.
Diane married Charles Martin Knorr (Chuck) in July of 1983. They divorced in 1991.
Later on, Diane had a long relationship with Tom Bergman. Tom was an independent owner of Bergman Painting, a hard worker, kind and loving. Diane embraced and shared Tom's love for his children and their children, too. And even though they spent countless times together as companions, traveling and enjoying friends, Tom always maintained his own private space and apartment. Sadly, Tom passed away on 2 April 2012.
For most of her adult life, Diane drove only 2 cars: a VW Super Beetle, and a VW Fox. Then she wised up and began driving only Subaru cars. She never looked back.
Diane was drawn to all things mysterious: tarot cards, palm readers, angel networks, and anything other worldly, even as her sister sent her comics like the one showing a palm reader looking seriously into a woman's palm and then saying to the woman, "I see here that you are very, very gullible."
Living life on her own terms, Diane was a self-starter and fiercely independent, only rarely accepting help from friends or family. Diane was all the time reaching into her inner most positivity. She loved to read. She loved going to the gym. And she absolutely, positively was always up for ways to go traveling.
Traveling with different friends was exciting to her and she happily made seeing the wider world a priority, going to many far away and exotic places that filled her with wonder and awe like Ireland, Hawaii, and Mexico. She also loved seeing Alaska and other ports unknown that she was able to drop into while enjoying a few fabulous cruise ship trips. California and the awesomeness of the Pacific Ocean, too, never failed in consuming lots of her summer vacations. In her younger days, she also went to a number of states in the East, enjoying unique journeys and meeting new people
Friends? Diane had many long-time, loyal friends who held her close, loved her dearly, and kept her going. They scooped her up when she was down, devotedly including her in their parties, celebrations, travel plans, and long heartfelt conversations. She often would talk for hours on the phone to friends near and far.
When you remember Diane, think of her favorite holiday, Halloween (Snicker bars and Kit Kats). Think of her favorite color's mauve and all manner of blues. Think of her making spicey salami and banana-nut bread for friends and neighbors at Christmas. But especially, when you remember Diane, think of butterflies, the beauty and symbolism of which was never lost on her. She had butterflies everywhere: on her phone screen, as magnets on her fridge, and hanging on her front door. Try to imagine Diane and a zillion butterflies, floating her up and away from this troubled world, taking her on new and fantastic other worldly travels and adventures. Imagine her looking down on us from above, smiling her uniquely genuine smile, laughing her joyful laugh, grinning and waving and reminding us to always "Live simply, laugh often and love deeply." Her favorite quote. And now, think of Diane finally at peace, and joining together with her beloved guardian angels.
Goodbye, Diane, we love you. God speed.
Diane did not like funerals, and she chose not to have one. Each person's grief is profoundly personal. We all have to be brave and sometimes grind our teeth throughout the whole strange experience, asking ourselves: what is life? And then do it again and again. However, we can learn to be grateful for those who we encounter and who might just magically cross our paths, and we can celebrate them in our hearts and remember their fine attributes and send out prayers for them or strong, loving energy. It's all a choice, right? Choose kindness and love whenever you are able.
Preceding Diane in death were her parents, and a longtime companion, Tom Bergman of Idaho. Surviving her are two brothers, Pat Foley, Liberty; Robert Drew Foley, WA; sister Pam Kirch (Terry) Eden; as well as many nieces and their children. Cremation and burial care of Leavitt's Mortuary. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice are welcome. Better still, take a long nature walk, read a book, or, best of all, teach someone to read in memory of Diane.

Diane and I met in high school well over 50 yrs ago and began a lifelong friendship that really blossomed when she started attending college and I had moved to CA from UT. She would visit every summer for several weeks and to say we had the time of our lives was only the beginning. Concerts, beach fun and road trips. One memorable road trip to Canada in 1973, we were camping in a pup tent for one night and a giant insect had crawled into our tent. When discovered, we collapsed the tent as we scrambled to escape, it was midnight and near the ocean, yes it was cold...Diane hates the cold! Along the way our luggage fell off the top of my car. Poorly strapped, we didn´t know what the heck we were doing! It was a mess, but we recovered our luggage and no one was hurt. We continued ORW and a cabin we rented almost burned down when our gas stove caught a roll of paper towels nearby on fire. Thank God for a bucket of water, the cabin lived to see another day. Another lifelong friend, Danette, was part of this crazy trip and I hope the two of them are reading this and laughing their butts off with all the other angels.

I lived in the Bay Area in CA for 22 yrs and we visited off and on, never losing touch. I´m now living in UT and we were able to attend our 50th HS reunion together. Awesome fun! About 20 yrs ago Diane and I took a short road trip to San Fran and Pacific Grove, CA along with my husband, Tony, and her longtime partner, Tom. We were able to visit a Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary in their natural environment during migration, it was a beautiful sight to see and is one of our all-time favorite memories!

I have a couple of short funny stories I call The Pillow That Went To Heaven and another is The Couch. Both are LOL moments that will remain in my heart, bc my road trip story above is already a book! Diane´s sense of humor, her contagious laugh, her big heart and our many hours of long convos late at night, the stories she shared of just day to day living would sometimes turn into fits of laughter and we couldn´t stop laughing until our tummies were hurting. Like Pam described, Diane could be gullible at times, but she learned many yrs ago to laugh at herself and was never afraid to share the silly things that happened to her. I LOVED that about Diane. RIP my dear friend, I will always love you.
Your soul sista, Cheri Audia
