Doc Bill Obituary

Dr. William C. Ratliff, DMD, known by many as "Doc Bill," beloved father, grandfather, and friend, died October 16th at home days after his 98th birthday.
After experiencing a minor stroke two months ago, he continued to live life to the fullest, embracing each day with the strength and spirit for which he was known. It was only following a recent battle with COVID and pneumonia that he peacefully passed away.
William C. Ratliff devoted his life to both his profession and the people of his community. As a dentist, he cared deeply for his patients, many of whom became lifelong friends, offering not only his skill but also his trademark warmth and humor that could ease even the most anxious patient in his dental chair.
Outside his practice, "Doc Bill" was a pillar of compassion and service. He was always the first to lend a hand, a tool, or a story to anyone in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and his home was a place of laughter, wisdom, and welcome.
Those who knew him best will remember his quick wit, his endless trove of stories-each one made unique by his ability to turn an ordinary day into a cherished memory. He carried himself with grace, humility, and an unshakable sense of gratitude for life's simple blessings.
Dr. Ratliff's greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather, whose love and example will echo through generations.
"Doc Bill" was a Kentucky Dental Association Member, an American Dental Association Member and a member of the Selective Service Board. Dr. Ratliff was an army veteran serving in the Korean conflict, military honors will be provided by the Johns Creek chapter 166 of the Disabled American Veterans.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and service-a reminder that a good life is measured not by years alone, but by the love one gives and the lives one touches.
Dr. Ratliff 's wife, Lurlene Elkins Ratliff preceded him in death. His survivors include, two daughters, Dr. Mary Jo Ratliff and her husband Chris Fleniken of Pikeville, Kentucky, Billie Susan Mueller and her husband Tim of Louisville, Kentucky, a step son, Michael Lee Settle of Pikeville, Kentucky, one sister, Mary Sallie Bellamy of Richmond, Kentucky, five grandchildren, Nicholas Andrew Mueller and his wife Hanna, Christopher Allen Mueller, Samantha Nicole Mueller, William Connor Fleniken, Alexander Lee Fleniken, and a very special care giver, Melissa Ratliff.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the University of Pikeville, 147 Sycamore Street, Pikeville, Kentucky 41501 or First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville, 508 Cedar Creek Road, Pikeville, Kentucky 41501.
Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville Friday October 24, 2025 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday October 25, 2025 – with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. with Scott Robinson officiating.
