A native and resident of New Iberia, Dolores "Dee" Romero was born on October 26, 1944 to the late Elton Bonin and Valerie Simoneaux Barrilleaux. Dee loved being a waitress, and she dedicated 18 years of her life working at The Guiding Star Restaurant, where she brought joy and warmth to all who crossed her path.
Affectionately called "Dee," "Granny," and "Maw" by those closest to her, Dolores was more than just a waitress. She was a talented artist who found solace in painting, a skilled seamstress who could bring any fabric to life, and a master at solving crossword puzzles. Her passion for cooking extended beyond the kitchen as she catered weddings and crafted beautiful wedding cakes that will forever be remembered.
In her leisure time, Dolores cherished the moments spent trolling with her beloved husband, Eric. Their bond was unbreakable, their love infectious. However, nothing brought Dee more joy than the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Romero is survived by her children, Regina Massie (Raymond), Seret Henry (Randy), Sonny Dupuis, Todd Dupuis (Mandy), and Reed Romero Sr. (Cody); stepchildren, Lynell Romero, Raquel Gros (Chad), Eric Romero Jr. (Sandra), Kardell Romero (Julie) and Vanessa Landry (Chris); sister, Linda Richard (Vance); 29 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Romero Sr.; grandson, Bryce Dupuis; great-grandson, Omi Luke Viator; and siblings, Susan Clark (Neil), and Kirby Bonin.
Pallbearers will be Tanner Dupuis, Chad Viator, Cody Allen Massie, Sage Romero, Cye Romero, and Lawrence Comeaux III.
Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Massie, Randy Henry, and Chad Gros.
May we find solace in knowing that Dee's memory will be carried forward through the countless lives she touched. May she rest in peace.
